#Blogmas 2016 - Day 10 - The Jingle Bell Tag : some of my favourite couples

The meme itself originates with Richard @ The Humpo Show. I've tweaked it though in that I am doing it over the course of 6 days instead of as one single post. Today is day 6.

Name your favourite TWO couples…

I have a LOT of favourite couples. Especially in the Harry Potter fandom. So instead of going on and on and listing all of my favourite couples. I'm going to pick 2 canon couples and 1 fanon couple, and no they won't all be HP couples so don't worry!

Canon Couples

Dagmar & Gwenvael from What a Dragon Should Know (Dragon Kin #3) by G.A. Aiken

Oh man, the level of pure unabashed snark and awesomeness between these two is ridiculous. Gwenvael is the 4th born child of the Dragon Queen - therefore he is a Prince. He's beautiful and he knows it and everyone expects him to be as empty headed as he is pretty, so he milks that low opinion for all it's worth because he's actually utterly brilliant. He's a smartass to the nth degree. As a background character in the first two books of the series his appearance, in my mind, always managed to out do his brothers who were the stars of their stories. So when it got to Gwenvael's story you knew Aiken was going to have to give him someone worthy of his brains. She didn't diasppoint because Dagmar really is his perfect match in every way. She's the brilliant, scheming only daughter of a Northern Warlord and her people treat her similarly to how Gwenvael's family treat him and she doesn't try to dissuade them because it aids her in her subterfuge. Once these two hook up they become an unstoppable hilarious force. Theirs is still one of my top 3 favourite books in that series.

Percabeth = Percy Jackson & Annabeth Chase from Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan

Percy and Annabeth, I could spend an entire post just talking about their relationship because there is that much to discuss. They started off as begrudging friends because Annabeth seemed to resent him. Then they became best friends, and then finally they realised they were in love with each other and started dating. Then of course Percy disappeared for awhile not of his own volition, but ya know, spoilers, so that's all I will say on that. They have a pretty standard couple arc. What makes these two unique is all the shit their author makes them suffer to get to their happy ending. They really are a perfect couple though, the ying to each other's yang. They balance each other out and complement each other so very well that it's really impossible to not root for them. Riordan writes such rich characters, his female characters never fail to catch my attention because they're so well done. Because his target audience is teenage boys you get to read the romance without all the flower-y bits that you can often get in an actual romance which is always nice. One of the best parts of Percy and Annabeth's relationship is that at it's absolute foundation it is based on a mutual admiration of each others abilities and respect for one another as individuals.

Fanon Couple

Deamus = Seamus Finnigan & Dean Thomas from Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling

These two are one of my absolute favourite Harry Potter couples. Seamus on his own is one of my favourite secondary characters. I love his individual character arc over the course of the series both in the books and in the films. I LOVE the addition of the running gag of his pyrotechnic proclivities in the films. I think Devon Murray plays him perfectly. I have a similar fondness for Dean on his own. His character arc was different from the growth that we saw with Seamus. Obviously canonically Dean had a thing with Ginny - but hey there's nothing saying he's not bisexual by pairing him with Seamus! Alfie Enoch is primarily responsible for why I like Dean he plays him well.

We all know that Dean and Seamus are best friends. That was their thing. But what makes me absolutely love the idea of Deamus is that, because of how oblivious Harry is in the books, for all we know Dean and Seamus were always there in the periphery of Harry and Ron's adventures, and Neville trying to live up to his gran's expectations of him, just quietly falling deeper and deeper into love with each other completely under their noses. It would be a perfect love story really the story of the gay boy and his bisexual best friend slowly coming to the realisation that they are more than just best friends, that they love one another and couldn't live without each other.  The palpable chemistry between Alfie and Devon also does a good job of selling the idea.

Plus like the Tumblr post says - it's technically canon anyway! I was honestly sooo thrilled when I first read about that.
